MONA

Museum of Old and New Art

Welcome to the most fascinating, interesting and unique museum in the southern hemisphere.

Mona is a privately owned museum and art gallery. The museum itself is an engineering masterpiece, actually built into the sandstone sea cliffs. Navigating the maze of staircases and walking along the sandstone corridors gives you a sense of wonder at its raw amazing architecture.

You will be exposed to a different kind of museum, there are exhibits from the old world, such as coins, paintings, Egyptian mummies and other antiquities but also thought-provoking exhibitions that raise questions of humanity, sexuality, mortality and taste. Last year Lonely Planet named mona the best modern art gallery in the world. Mona has extensive and uniquely different gardens to roam through. There are several restaurants, bars, cafes and luxury accommodation, brewery, vineyard, library, function centre and even a tennis court and cemetery.

Your departure from Mona is by ferry (or bus) to Brooke st pier on Hobart's waterfront. The ferry option is a relaxing 20-25 minute crossing. Your ferry or bus ticket is included in your tour. If you wish to makes changes to your ferry/bus ticket please contact Mona staff.

For many many visitors soaking up the Mona experience is the highlight of their trip to Hobart and I am sure you will come away with some fantastic memories of your time here.
