Mt Nelson Signal Station

Memorable Mt Nelson

Mt Nelson signal station was established in 1811.

The station's role was to announce the appearance of all ships entering the estuary and provide a communication link between Port Arthur and Hobart

It's semaphore technology was superseded by the arrival of the telegraph in 1880.

Mt Nelson offers a fully licensed restaurant/cafe so you can unwind with your favourite beverage and a bite to eat as you enjoy the magnificent 180-degree views across Hobart's city landscape, Bruny island, to the Tasman peninsula, the D'Entrecasteaux Channel and beyond
